Default No oil pressure, cant seem to prime the oil pump

I have an 89 TTA into which we have transplanted at 4.1 "291" shortblock with TTA heads. It has a hv front cover. The oil pump was well packed with vaseline, but we are unable to develop any oil pressure or flow when we spin the oil pump with a drill. What could be wrong. What is the proper procedure to prime the oil pump on a TTA since the oil cooler setup is different than a GN?

Shoot.... looks like I missed this one too.... did you ever get this fixed... I'm sure you did, sorry I miss it. I don't see the TTA as being any different to prime the oil. I have seen the wrong gasket used on the oil pump cover cause the prime to be difficult... otherwise something stupid like the oil pick up loose or not there....

Jack,

The problem turned out to be a poorly machined aftermarket cover. The front cover oil supply channels were not drilled deep enough...no open passage from the oil pickup to the oil pump in the cover. Opened them up...the oil pump primed in a hurry.
