Jack , where there is smoke ......
Jack; I started the car the other day after I replaced the head gaskets . I got alot of white smoke on start up and it continued through the warm up. Could be residue from before , you think ? Where to go from here ???? Some what lost in Ct.

If you had an exhaust full of antifreeze, then that might do it, but I don't think it would start until the exhause warmed up some, and it would eventually ever stop. Did it?
If not, then I'd say that maybe you have a little antifreeze seeping in. You can run a compression check. That'll tell you if the head gaskets are leaking. (which I doubt) The only thing I can think is that maybe there was a little gasket material left on the intake or the intake sealing surface on the heads. That would be my guess. Did you goop up the water ports good enough on the intake?

Not saying this is the problem. I know someone who tried to torque heads with a Needle style torque wrench. He washed the motor twice, before we realized he wasnt using a good quality wrench.

Yup, no problem.
You said white smoke, so I was thinking antifreeze. Does the exhaust smell like antifreeze? You know, sweet? Are you losing antifreeze? Try changing the plugs, or just clean them up, and then try cutting way back on the fuel. Then if/when you get it running better, throw in a set of new plugs. You do have a fast unit, right? What does the O2 read at idle? Maybe your O2 is bad. Did you lose a bunch of antifreeze out the exhaust when you blew the head gasket. That might have wrecked your O2. ARe you running it in open or closed loop at idle? I would just try running it in open loop so that you aren't fighting the computer for control. Just a couple of ideas.

First off, I don't want to say, I told you so.... I want it to be what someone suggested... water left over in the exhaust.. did the smoke clear up?is the oil clean? is the coolant level steady... as far as the laptop, of vcourse, bring it...
