Default New Turbo

Jack, I need your help. I bought a new turbo center section from you this past Friday. I installed it, started the car and it ran great for around four or five minutes. I was getting 75 lbs of oil pressure at idle. I raised the rpm to 1,500 rpm and began blowing tons of smoke out the back. The inboard seal on the new turbo failed and I was pumping oil into the intake. Can you help me out, I want to return the turbo to Precision ASAP and have them put seals in it and get it back to me so I can get my car back on line.

I think we will have to change the pressure release spring on the oil pump to lower the pressure.

Please write back so we can put together a plan.

Thanks Frank

Pretty simple plan Frank, get the turbo off and we'll send it right back to PTE... address the OP, I wonder what it went up to when you revs it...

Jack, thanks for the reply. I would like to send it back red, or whatever you guys use for expedited delivery. Will Precision do an expedited turn around?
We need to reduce the spring tension on the relief valve. I think you guys put a stiff spring in when you installed the new oil pump because I was experiencing low oil pressure at the time. Now, with the new rod and main bearings and the new turbo, I think we are getting too much pressure.

Jack, to the second part of your question, I took it up very little, 500 rpm, maybe 75-80 lbs. I did not rev the motor, it was more like just taking it up a little over idle.

Ok, not bad, it may be a little high, not so sure it would cause the oil to push by. How is your oil return, it's not backing up, is it?

I just replaced it, I picked up a used drain tube from you, the other one had a leak. I poured some oil down the tube and it drained fine.

Post Conversation with Precision

Hi Jack. Did you talk to Precision regarding the turbo that you are returning? Were you able to send it out expedited delivery? Did Precision give you an estimate on when we can expect the turbo back? Thks Frank
