Default What's the advantage of progressive vs. non?

Obviously I'm asking cause I have non and I wonder if it's lacking some. My question is that if you get knock at given boost level, then why not have the alcy come on at that point? Why does it come on progressively? Does it not need to go at the full volume that you need to take out the knock? It seems that the boost goes up so fast that there wouldn't be time to apply the alcy "progressively". Does the knock materialize progressively? so that you want to only have the alcy come on in a kind of mirror progression? Is that supposed to be more efficient than applying alcy all at once?
