Darn, too bad this conflicts with the Nats @ Englishtown.

gumbo 03-31-2008 12:33 PM

I hear ya. I'm taking a truckload of 11 year old boys down to Etown. Getting out of school early Friday and arriving ET by 5-6pm for various qualifying but mainly going to see the nitro cars Q session after dark

It's been a 6 or so years since we last went - this time I'll take gas masks for the walk thru pits.

If I can get that whole weekend off I'll trek up to NH the next day.

You, or at least I, can't print the page with the event info on it, but the application/registration page prints fine. This is a great event for Buick folks in the Northeast. Let's see who's willing to come out and actually RACE their Buick. :D

waGoN 03-31-2008 06:46 PM

Bob,
I can forward you that page when I get home if you want. I also have the sponsor sign up sheet in case you are feeling generous.
I just talked to Jerry the other night. Any questions, let me know.
Jerry said that we will have an area in the pits assigned for us. They are going to allow us to grill and cook our own food. Razorback Racing will be providing dogs and burgers to the participants. I think someone may be bringing some of the now world famous NEBRA soda. ;-)
We will be using the Pro Stock Ladder format.
Based on our time trial times, #1 will be going against #16, and #17 will be going against #32. This should make it more interesting, and better than having a 13 second car go against an 8 second car.
There will be other items given away as well as the money from the purse. Jerry is working on some other stuff for all participants, and I am looking at a couple of things too. I just don't want to say anything until we have it all worked out.
It is $25 to run in the Buick Shootout, if you register and pay by June 1st. After June 1st, and the day of, it will be $35. Still one hell of a bargain if you ask me. That small fee and you have a chance to win $1000 for first place! I have more details, but they are in this dark place I call a mind, and can't fish them all out right now.
This is a great opportunity to get something Buick going again in our neck of the woods.

waGoN 05-05-2008 06:39 PM

Soooo, who here is interested? I will be attending, in fact, I got drafted to cook somehow. You know they must be having plenty of food. Otherwise they wouldn't even think of letting me near it.

waGoN 05-30-2008 04:46 PM

OK, everyone, I just got off the phone with Jerry. He said that he just ordered up the T-shirts, and he is planning out the food as we speak. It's going to be a great time. Let's see, Buicks, racing and food, how can it not be great??
Anyways, in order to help Jerry plan this, I'd like to know who is planning on coming.
If you know you are coming, let us know, if you know you want to come, but aren't sure you can make it, let us know. If you really want to come, but can't, we don't care and don't want to hear from you! Just kidding, and too bad you are going to miss it. Like I said it's going to be a blast!

So, who is definately coming, who is probably coming and who is maybe coming? We need some idea on the total. We can't buy 20 hamburgers and feed 50. Well, we can, but someone is going to be hungry!!
Did I mention that as well as getting a T-shirt, the participants are also going to be fed? I will also have a few cases of my custom Buick Racing soda! Yes, that's right, Buick Racing Soda!
If you haven't already mailed in your check, do it today, so that you can beat the deadline. After the first, you no longer get the early bird special. Either way, it is still one heck of a bargain, and a great chance to take home a decent kitty.
Any questions, just ask.

waGoN 06-02-2008 06:26 PM

Well?

Night Train 06-03-2008 02:26 AM

You know I'm in with my slow 11.5 sec. car...

waGoN 06-13-2008 08:27 PM

Anyone else? I promise to help feed you. Well, I'll help Jerry feed you.
Me? I'm going home and take the car apart.
Oh, and I plan on putting it back together too. I will be ready for this one.

JCotton1 06-15-2008 01:44 PM

We'll be there with the Pumpkin and maybe a few more shop cars. I have several customers planning to go. I'm sure there will be a good showing. It's been a long time since we've had a Buick meet in the northeast...

BrianHynes 06-15-2008 04:51 PM

I'll be thinking of you guys while I'm @ E-town snorting some NITRO. Will there be another meet this fall?

waGoN 06-15-2008 05:12 PM

Well, that's good news, Jack. Of course, I knew you'd be there. A Buick event without the Pumpkin just wouldn't be the same.
The waGoN should be ready. I finally put on the H&R bar yesterday. I would have finished swapping out the plugs, but Lorraine called, and then Arlene and I decided to go outside and look for the fox that keeps running through our yard. Cute little bugger, and apparently smart enough to not run in front of cars.

Anyways, Big Dawg, when you set up the H&R bar, do you usually set any preload on it? I know the instructions say none, and that the 8-9 second cars sometimes like 2 turns, so since my car is special, I decided to preload it one turn. My car acts like the faster ones even though it isn't. Maybe I can keep some of the twist out of it, and keep my wheel well molding straight, or should I say curved.
Well, Arlene and I are heading out soon to look into food/drinks for this thing, so, talk to you later.

Yes.

Jerry has a date with NED setup for sometime in September I think.

After talking to Lorraine yesterday, it sounds like they are going to have their desired minimum participants this first time around, which means the second one should be even better. Not to mention, September is better weather for our cars. Coooooooooler!

turbineborique 06-18-2008 05:16 PM

Put me in ..... On the 21st.

Hey guys I think I can make it to NED on the 21st . So put me in , besides me and the wagon have unfinished business ..... All I saw was tail lights . See yah there . Later

You must have been driving the Camaro.....the Mustang.......at least that is what those guys are always telling me.

See ya Saturday. I was talking to Jerry yesterday. Just so noone gets lost, when you get there look for his sign right after you pass the gas shack on the right. He/we will all be camping out there on the grass. Jerry will be there first thing. I'll try and show up early and wake him.

Yeah, but if I recall correctly, you went by so fast at the top end, that you took more paint of my side view mirror.

turbineborique 07-01-2008 01:47 AM

Hey Brian ; How's the tranny ? What did you have in that thing anyway ? Stock ? I bet the fuild smelled nice . See yah at track Angel

waGoN 07-01-2008 03:31 PM

Stock?? Nah, that thing tears up the performance ones. We just upgraded it to billet internals, but we just added them to the tranny, we didn't go all through it. I'm not sure it is the tranny though. I think the splines in the driveshaft yoke are twisted, because the driveshaft won't go into the tranny. I think on my 20-ish pound launch, when the car squatted, it pushed the driveshaft into the tranny, and possibly caused it to lock up. Either that, or it caused it to internally destruct, or maybe the rear end blew up. I am going to try to make a spot for it in the garage today so that I can get it out of the trailer, but other stuff is trying to keep me away from it. My daily driver is acting up. My daily driver 83 Malibu wagon with 160,000 miles and a 229cu.in. just isn't running right. I guess I'm going to have to put a battery in the GN and drive that. I guess it won't be too bad.
Anyways, I hope to have an idea, or possible even have it repaired this week.

waGoN 08-25-2008 05:09 PM

Wow, forgot this post was out here. The tranny was all messed up.
I pulled the drive shaft, and the splines on the yoke were twisted pretty bad. So, everytime the car squatted, the yoke was pushing on the tailshaft and eventually the tranny had enough, and something broke. I replaced the driveshaft, and Jack got the tranny all straightened out. He gave me a handful of busted metal parts when I picked it up. Shifts great now, and this weekend I should be able to test it out and hopefully get that 10 that I have been trying for.
So, if anyone has trouble getting their driveshaft to slide into the tranny, check for a twisted yoke. It can be hazardous to your tranny's health.

waGoN 08-29-2008 02:38 PM

Well, unfortunately the next Buick Shootout for September 20th had to be canceled due to a scheduling conflict. I spoke with Jerry yesterday and he is working on getting another date. It was one of the best events that I have attended. (Even though I didn't win the pot, but I'm going to try for it next time even harder.) That's saying alot too, since this was the first one.
