WOW! That is extremely impressive! Looks like you got that thing really dialed in. Good Job!
|
Well done. I hope mine runs that good this year.
Bryan |
thanks guys
its pretty well dialed in and brackets competitively at 10.7 with a slightly lowered running boost of 23psi and slightly lowered launch boost to about 7-8 psi so i can have my target boost before the green light , usually .040 or better, and to keep the risk of breaking tires loose with a 1.52- 1.55 60' only thing i wish i had dialed in was the entry for this summers pinks at my hometown track :( , will be there spectating , showing support and if need be to lend a hand to my fellow buick club members who made the list |
that's good stuff Paul.....
|
Pauly (aka The Good Doctor) IS The Man!!! :D
He's been there for all my best times and has helped me run a TA49 way passed Normal times!!! |
hey john!!
heres the link to a cool GN video , your 12second run on the stocker is in it as well as a couple of my 10.4 passes that day http://videos.streetfire.net/video/e...8c013e4547.htm |
That was a great day, Pauly!!!
Me beating Don...Nice The 12.27 run against Artie...Real nice!!! You smacking the balz off the Mustang....Priceless :D :D |
Nice times Paul, congrats!
|
Great Tome on a stock bottom end
WOW! 10's on a stock bottom end! Good Luck...you're going to need it. I hope it stays together for you.
|
yeah i know i guess seeing as how its done it for the past 5 years and close to 600 passes i should be concerned

happened upon this this old thread on a google search , didnt find what i was looking for :(
but figured i might as well update about 4months after the last post the stock piston (#3) decided to split across the top , might have been that way for a while but waited till i had the tune rocking to become a hole the run that it showed up on was at 24psi and was running 6.67 102.4 1/8 when it let go (started pushing oil out the breathers) and finished at 10.52 124.6 with a 1.48 60' pulled the motor and I pressed off the cracked piston and pressed on a used stock piston using the old rod and rings , and then dropped in a fully assembled stock 109 motor i had on the stand (all stock turbo parts but with a NA crank) that thing went 12.5 on stock turbo at 19psi took a while to get the motor back together because ive been busy but i must have had a break as at some time I replaced the rod and main bearings and also replaced the #3 main cap that somehow got cracked , fast forward to march 2011. i decided to put the motor back together with really nothing changed about the motor.. same hyd flat cam/lifters (little 206) , same iron heads , same intake setup reused the cometics again (they were used ones from Jacks pile) I did upgrade the pushrods from stock to comp magnums and went with a stock balancer and flywheel and added a set of TA mild steel race headers took it right to atco and ran 128 took it to etown 4-29 and turned out a 10.58 at 128.5 at 23psi that should have been good enough but i really didnt want to spin this motor over 6K even though it pulled easily over 6350rpm on the shifts but trapped at 6000+ rpm so i wasnt about to push harder though im sure there was much more left i had a forged roller motor in the works but couldnt get it ready for march 109 block bored to .020 JE .020 forged pistons K1 rods cat 4340 forged crank (std mains/ had to cut rods to .010 ) rotating assembly balanced for external BHJ balancer ext cat sfi flywheel ext 8445 irons with only cleanup behind valves ,no runner porting comp 918 behives- locks- retainers cut the exhaust guide down and teflon seals cut the pedestal sides down for rolller rocker clearance 215/220 comp roller/comp lifters/comp magnum 8.150 prods /comp timing set arp 12pt head studs cometic 050 gaskets T+D 155 roller rockers (.519intake- .529 exh) preload at .030 champion (buick-6) valve covers stock intake but has the egr tower milled and filled stock fuel rail and fuel lines accufab regulator 83# low Z inj rtx injector hotwire mease sheetmetal plenum (65 mm opened up to 70 barely) accufab 70m TB finished it off with TA perf stainless race headers I pulled stock bottom end motor out and dropped that into my 87 and then dropped this one in , first night after a few test runs it ran 103.5 1/8 128.8 at under 22psi but couldnt hook on drag radials so best et was only a 10.81 went back the next week and even though it was hot it still put down 129.90 at 10.7 , still no traction so i went back again last week with some slicks still couldnt hold traction on a friday night prep but managed 104.25 1/8 and 130.0 through traps and then upped the bost a wee bit and slipped the tires even worse 60' was 1.689 ran 103.8 and 130.75 @ 10.6 , boost was 22.6 through to the 1/8 then 23.6 to the top keep in mind this is just a std 109 with no steel caps , no studs , no girdle , no hard blok just stock main caps and bolts , didnt even do a line bore |
Nice stuff Paulie, yyou guys bringing that stuff up to LVD tomorrow for the Buick race...
|
im not looking forward to the bake in a black car in a staging lane , if i do go out it will be to run the efi points at etown
hopefully Griz can carry the buick flag high for us and good luck with the pumpkin , ps, just remembered i have some fixing to do came home to find on my atr ext pipe that the pipe going to the HKS wastegate was cracked at the inlet flange , i can weld it back but would rather move up to one of those pw46 gates , did the pw46 for a buddy on the same ATR DP last week and i beleive that was the last one you had in stock, |
thought id update this ..
ive been making changes but havent had the opportunity to get out and try them with the weather being so uncooperative changes were because the power was coming in way to quick and couldnt get the car to hook , i had added co2 assist to the wastegate and that seemed to make it worse , even the ramps werent helping much suspension was just stock upper arms , welded stock lowers and old 3way AVO shocks ....swapped them out for umi dbl adj poly uppers and umi box poly lowers , comp eng 3way adjustable shocks set 90/10 front and 50/50 rear . installed a TA girdle rear cover with cap studs knowing once it hooks its going to be brutal relocated the battery to the trunk with flaming river remote shutoff (nhra legal) which allowed me to put the alky bucket where the battery was and rear face the outlet because logs were showing that it was cavitating top of 1st gear , also replaced my 8yr old alky controller because it was no longer working progressively fixed my PI gnx cluster vdo fuel level gauge and once again could see the actual level so i topped the tank off with 93 at quik chek and also added a bailey two step to get a better handle on the launch to allow me to launch below my gate spring (8psi) if the track wasnt hooking finally efi event sat 10-22-11 nice weather for a change , no rain , mid 60s da 500-600ft 12mph wind (4 headwind) but what can ya do sun was out and friday night was hooking great old worn mickey 275/60-15 drs at 18psi , weight now with the battery kit and the full tank put the car at 3590 according to etowns new scale 1st pass set controller at 23psi and (ran 22 most of run) forgot i had set a ramp to stage 1 on the msbc-1 (had ramp 10 ) had the baily two step set at 3200 launched at 6 even though it could go to 8 with the spring , and i remembered to turn the co2 on :) time trial #1 1.649 4.403 6.737 104.73 8.871 10.501 130.12 it hooked so that was cool and the best et on this motor thus far , now to put a little more down time trial #2 removed the ramp and set two step to 3600, launch control to 9psi was a little rich up top at 10.5 a/f (target 10.8) so i tweaked the ve and upped the boost stages to 24 (never went over 24 ) 1.442 4.155 6.453 106.37 8.457 10.162 131.92 on to eliminations dial a 10.22 figuring id use the brakes .031 RT 1.469 4.160 6.453 106.61 8.455 10.163 131.33 i lifted 9 seconds in and still broke out :( keep in mind this is on 93 and alky (methanol) injection at 20 degrees timing stock fuel lines and rail ... thats going to change soon on the next upgrade |
minor update
fri night drove into track , teched and got in line with them telling me they werent going to run gamblers or realstreet 1/4 mile but rather only 1/8th mi , and the track was going to allow the street cars to run 1/4 but might change their mind as the night cooled so test and tune it was going to be same tune as last week no changes broke the tires loose through 1st 60' 1.694 330' 4.555 1/8 6.882 MPH 105.630 11000' 8.893 1/4 10.599 MPH 131.82 not happy but the trap mph was good with tires still warm got right back in lanes and right back up to the tree only change i made was to drop the two step limit to 3100 figuring even a 1.5 would be ok as long as it didnt break loose R/T .047 60' 1.488 330' 4.189 1/8 6.475 MPH 107.100 1000' 8.464 1/4 10.156 MPH 133.04 that was fun and a new personal best 1/8th and 1/4 on 93 and alchy went back to make another pass before it got too cold , added 1 psi to the the stages for the middle of the track and sure as SHi# someone blew up in right lane at the top and stayed in the groove , 1 1/2 hrs of cleanup and the track made the decision to hold all cars to 1/8th mile passes so i called it quits , good thing because three cars later they oiled down the 1st half of the left lane and switched to right lane only 1/8mile passes Oh well have to hope for nicer weather than this snow crap for a chance at a nine slip |
In da nines
made some changes since last post
ptc 9.5 converter ran some 10.11-10.12 runs at 108 .134.6 but 60 wasnt there and at top of track it was wandering this required hitting it harder off the line and found the umi lower control arm bushing had split from hard launching so time for some rear suspension upgrades wolfe racecraft upper and lower dbl adjust control arms HR lower arm frame pocket braces (weld in) QA1 single adjust rear shocks 12-150 2.5"coil springs on wolfe adjustable spring perches notched the frame rails for some big meats (just outer rail) 15x10 weld alumastars and 325/50 MT radials 15x4 weld alumastar and 165 fronts at 134 mph the stock lines were about due for an upgrade so steel braided teflon lines , -8 feed and -6 return (stock rail with 8an bung) also had overshoot running the msbc-1 in manifold mode even with the co2 assist so i replumbed in wastegate mode and added a 2psi hobbs to activate controller installed the PW46 gate (from Jack) on my atr 3" external pipe and .installed a 4.5 psi spring also running baileys 2 step which also works good for the rev limiter as it cuts ignition not fuel went to atco buick vs ford today and right off the trailer ran 1.529 110 9.96 136 made 4 more passes getting faster in the nines with a 1.52 9.974, 1.45 9.877 , 1.46 9.876 , and 1.448 9.827 at 136.79 stayed after for some time shots and upped the launch boost and spun 1.8 60' and 10.3 but at 137.23 ! mph showed id have a nice pass if it had stuck so i backed launch settings down where it was in time shots and the last pass was... 1.46 6.25 @ 110.97 9.815 @ 137.68 still pump gas 93 and methanol injection , 18.5 deg timing launched at 9.5psi (and 4100 on two step) and ran at 26.5 psi boost |
Great job Paulie!! That's haulin the mail. Inch by inch is a cinch.
