Gtk-850
Is anyone using the new GTK-850 turbo (72mm)? How does it compare to other turbos used?
How is the spool and driveability? Thanks Datar |
Check with Mike Nogradry. I believe that is the turbo he has. Don't know for sure if he has run it prior on his car, 'cause his car is under construction at the moment.

Jack mentioned a guy from ST. Louis is using one, hopefully he can post his expierence with it.

I'm the guy in St Louis with the GT-K 850. This turbo is NASTY. I'm trying to chase down some gremlins in-between snow storms and ice storms:D. I haven't been able to get a decent tune to tell how fast it will spool but the big end is VERY NASTY. Not looking good for weather. 70* today and 10" of ice and snow by Tuesday. Will keep you posted when I figure it out.

The GT-K turbos NORMALLY come with a 4 bolt exhaust housing, so there is no way to get a 1000 with a 850 cover with a standard 3 bolt GN housing. I got an S trim .85 AR. The GT-K 1000 uses an HP76 wheel while the GT-K 850 uses an HP72 wheel. The GT-K cover on the inlet is the same. The only way to get the 1000/850 combo is with a 4 bolt which will get you their new ceramic coated housing.

Any news on how this turbo performs at the track?

opps, sorry Lorrie, it's me again using Lorries computor... Jack |
I now have a GTK-850! Have to give props to Jack for hooking me up with Turbonetics (Brian Cerny), customer service was great! I should have the car running with the new stroker combo in 2 weeks.
|
Nice! You gotta post some times with that combo! Where did you get the stroker done at?
|
Any updates on the GT-K turbos yet. Someone has got to have track times. Mine is still down. Can't wait to run this beast.

Good luck with the new combo, we want to see a 9sec pass with this turbo! I won't have mine together until until the end of this month. I have a date with the dyno the first week of July... hoping for mid 600+ rwhp without beating on it to hard. :D

Any new word on the GTK? I'm still waiting on my car  Please tell me somthin good!

Still at machine shop... I just want to see how they look installed! My guy out here is taking a lot of EXTRA time as he hasn't worked on a TR in about 5 years. Car has been there since October though! I havent even seen it! I went with a chip from Eric at Turbo Tweak per your suggestion 79lb injector combo with factory computer til winter when I'll get a FAST set p from you. Keep me in mind if any good used ones come up. Anything we should look out for as car SHOULD be complete by next friday.?.

My car is up and running, I drove it pretty hard during break in but no real WOT passes because of the tune in the XFI. At 1/2-3/4 throttle and 15# of boost it feels like my old combo with the GTK66BB at 20# boost. I have a feeling this thing will pull a high 10sec pass with only 15# boost  7000rpm shifts are going to be fun!

I just ran a 9.91 @ 133.74 with 18 psi at E-town.

Congratulations! Geez, wonder what it will do when you turn it up to 25# How much does your car weigh in at? This combo should give me a 9sec slip but do not have the brakes or cage to do it this year... I will still drop the hammer on a few 1/8 mile passes to see where it sits. I will post a few pics in a day or two of the new setup. The 1/4 mile strip up here in British Columbia is called Mission Raceway.

The cars weighs 3252 pounds with me in the car and about 7-8 gallons of fuel. Wow you are way up there in British Columbia. I wish you luck with car and I am sure you will be getting a 9 second time slip with that turbo! Good Luck! |
That is awesome. Very impressive first couple outtings. That thing is a beast! Hope mine will be worthy. Post more pictures when you can.

Was the car getting full traction?

My 60 ft' for that run was 1.41. I had a 1.39 60ft' that day. Just wasn't that run.

Car weighs around 2950 with driver and fuel.....We were talkin about using the GTK 850 unless you thought it wasnt a good match...Not sure if I should use the 44 Tial or the 46 Tial since I will be spraying the car....Im thinking the 46mm... Ive checked Burns Stainless site and they sell 4" oval tubing for $60 a foot and and a 4" round to 4" oval adapter for like $45.If you want,I can go ahead and order that stuff 1st thing Monday and have it shipped to ya....Im wanting 4" dp,ext gate off the header, and 4" oval exhast dumping right at the front of the door since race cars dont need exhaust!!! ________ LaCremo |
Wow! That is a ton of nice stuff. Your car should be a screamer! I thought my car was light with me in it. How did you get the weight down that far?
I think by cutting down my 60' time down, Jack tweaking the program on the XFI,(which hasn't been touched really since the first time at the valley) turning the boost up and maybe a intercooler uprade;) I don't think that I will be too far from the times that you speak of. That turbo is simply amazing. |
